BUT
WHY DOES
POSITIVE THINKING WORK?
The
difficulty in understanding positive thinking lies in the fact that
it suggests to us a completely different way of seeing the world.
Essentially, it deals with considering ideas as real and concrete
facts. Thinking that we are incapable does more than just limits
our actual ability to do something more complicated than letting
a fart. The idea of being worthless creates a reality around us
which multiplies our difficulties at every step, increasing the
likelihood of failure. In turn, failure reinforces in us the conviction
that we are worthless, casting us into: even more difficult and
unpleasant situations.
IN
WHAT WAY DO
NEGATIVE THOUGHTS
ACT AGAINST US?
When
you are ill, there is no harmony: work doesn't go well, love is
a torment, and being at home with the family is like being in a
cage of angry tigers. It looks as if there is no way out, that nothing
will change. But that's really not the way it is.
Every hour of every day, we make an infinite number of choices
without even noticing it. We say something in this or that tone,
or we decide to keep quiet. We talk to a stranger willingly and
openly, or we avoid contact by limiting ourselves to giving just
the information requested or the service that we will be paid for.
We take one road or another. We do or do not seize an opportunity,
read a book, or try a different approach.
Everyday we discard thousands of potential choices without even
realizing it. Everyday our life can follow one direction, and one
only. And we choose it without giving much thought to this choice.
We act as if these were insignificant choices. Instead every choice
opens up the possibility of encountering subsequent opportunities
and connections. Other choices are determined this way, which will
gradually make our life take a certain direction. For every direction
we choose, we discard a thousand others.
We don't concern ourselves with the fact that every decision
has infinite consequences, opens new possibilities for different
coincidences, chance happenings, contacts, and opportunities.
No. We think a great deal about important choices, those that really
determine our future. Certainly, important choices are important.
But how many are there? 10, 20, 50 at most. Everyday we make 100
choices of little importance that become hundreds of thousands in
a year. These are what constitute the fabric of our existence and
which end up dominating our overall reality.
