HOW
THE ANCIENTS
MADE USE OF THESE DIAGRAMS
At
this point we have seen how the ancient Chinese and Hebrew philosophers
elaborated a conception of reality based on a notion of time,
the observation of the three dimensio nality of space, and awareness
of the contradictory nature of movement and other phenomena. They
believed that the universe was a unified entity composed in its
most diverse aspects of phenomena which man was able to codify.
As
we have seen, this line of reasoning contributed to the development
of inventions such as writing. These ideas have the great value
of being the products of concrete analysis of reality.
Mankind,
in fact, observes reality as it is, based on the observations
of the senses. At this point you will be anxious, (I hope) to
know how the ancients made use of the fruits of their labour.
What did the Chinese do with the I Ching, and the Jews with the
Cabala?
