SUBTLE
PERCEPTIONS
|
|
We have talked about the sensation of freshness in the arm that
rises by itself and in the hand that closes in slow motion. These
sensations belong to a much lower and subtler level compared to
common sensations. They are light sensations that you can listen
to inside yourself. They last briefly, even less than a second.
If you breathe, relax, yawn, smile and enter into a receptive mood,
you can begin to listen to these subsensations. They resemble itching,
tensions, stirrings, rustlings, bursts of energy, light, colours,
changes in temperature... but they are not as clear as the real
sensations that come from the outside. They are less clear not because
they are less real, but because they are so brief that you find
them difficult to identify. But if you slow your vital rhythm by
relaxing yourself, you can grasp them fully. Have you ever listened
to the sound of silence? It is a kind of buzzing that you hear
in your ears when there is no sound. It is the blood that flows
in the veins and arteries around your ears. Have you ever listened
to your heartbeat?
To be become receptive to these "sounds" allows us to
recognize the voice of our physical body, to hear its incessant
activity. To voluntarily pick up on these signals lets the rational
mind collaborate with the communication process between organs,
functions and the unconscious mind (which also supervises the body's
physiological activities).
To open this channel of listening is beneficial not only for our
health, but also for another reason.
How many times, after a disappointment, have you said "I
had a gut feeling", or "I sensed it was wrong", or
"I felt distrustful"...
How many times were we right instead in following "what I felt
inside". The instinctive brain has a fantastic capacity to
acknowledge and to correlate tones of voice, small slips of the
tongue, body language, verbal structures and analogies, and to draw
information from them. Moreover, your unconscious always knows which
choice best corresponds to your deepest aspirations and to your
real possibilities.
If someone wants to integrate their personality and to listen also
to what the subconscious says, they need to learn to listen to themselves.
To listen to how our body reacts to different situations, to the
thought of doing this or that.
What subperceptions do you hear? What are the colours of the mental
film in which you see yourself while you carry out the project that
you so desire? If you observe these subsensations, you will derive
from them a constant inner dialogue and you will integrate your
rational knowledge with your unconscious impressions. It's no small
matter. Animals live using only their impressions, and they manage
quite well.
Only by discovering this animal mechanism, will you find the highroad
that destiny has in store for you, and therefore discover the meaning
of your life. Your purpose. In other words, to perceive the direction
of the cosmic flow that carries us and protects us.
What do you know, anyway?! Perhaps your purpose is to raise roller-skating
snails in Burundi. And only by doing this will you be truly happy.
But how can you find this out, if you don't follow the instinct
that prompts you to participate in a striptease and a watermelon
tossing contest taking place in Amsterdam, thanks to which, you
will meet the snail of your life?
Now that I've illustrated the importance of discovering subsensations,
I would like to propose an exercise that will allow you to tune
in to this level right away.
CLOSE
YOUR EYES, OPEN YOUR SENSES
Breathe,
relax, stretch, smile, yawn, get into a comfortable position and
stay like that for five minutes, just listening. After about thirty
seconds, you will begin to hear this level of perception. Don't
try to capture or listen to the individual subsensations for a long
time. Let them float by as if they were the musical notes of a song.
You will see that by doing this, these perceptive moments will become
increasingly frequent and audible. Repeat this exercise for a few
days and then, more and more often, you will automatically find
yourself listening how you "hear" a person's voice inside
you or what subsensations prompt you to be near or to touch him
or her. This reacquired ability to obtain information from reality
leads to a second level of awareness. And it is too intriguing and
reassuring for you not to feel fascinated by it. Gradually, as you
follow the subtle attraction that draws you toward certain choices,
following inspirations and connections, you will derive practical
benefits from it. You will develop a new sense of reality, the ability
to intuit the course of things, at least sometimes. This will improve
the result of your efforts and in this way derive new satisfactions
that will motivate you to cultivate this sensitive approach to situations.
Attention:
not "SENSITIVE" in the sense of extrasensory experiences.
I'm not talking about miracles. I say "sensitive" in the
sense of "to feel to sense". If you look around you, grasping
comprehensively the meaning of the subtlest details, you will have
a better chance to avoid banging your shins and your head against
corners that are there in plain view in all their reverberating
concreteness. In fact, it is cause for amazement each time one bangs
against a corner. It just seems incredible that one has been able
to hurt oneself in such a stupid way. But there aren't any intelligent
ways to hurt oneself.
